After eight long years of waiting and hoping and praying and enduring procedures and loss and pain, I am absolutely thrilled to congratulation Mark and Tammy on the birth and adoption of their daughter, Hannah. This new mommy has become a dear, dear friend of mine, and I'm honored to have been able to be a tiny part of their adoption journey. God is so good! What a Merry little Christmas miracle this sweet girl is to all of us! Congrats, Mommy and Daddy! :)

My goodness, where did the fall go? Happy December to everybody and hope your Christmas preparations are going well! This is one of the warmest, happiest times of the year, but I know from experience it can be one of the toughest for those dealing with infertility, waiting in the adoption process, AND for birth families out there, so remember all three in your prayers!

Here are a few new situations a couple of the agencies we work with are matching. The first is a special, difficult situation, so email me asap if you'd like more info.

3/4 Caucasian, 1/4 African American baby girl born Nov. 22 in UT. Birth mom has already relinquished rights, but there are some complicated birth father legal issues and a strong possibility of a contested adoption. Any family needs to be prepared financially and emotionally in the event of that challenge and uncertainty. Agency fees are 25K, 7K in medical and again, additional legal fees depending on how the case goes.

Myles' Story

I love this family! Theirs is my fastest adoption to date, but it was a long time coming for them. They went through so much pain and a loss that most of us can't imagine prior to deciding to adopt. They now have a sweet baby boy with the biggest smile ever! I remember, too, how special their adoption was because of how instantly mom knew this little guy was her son. We thought we could never get everything in on time, but it's amazing what can be done when a Mama is working for her baby! I feel so honored to have been part of their journey but mostly to now consider them friends. Here is Myles' story:

Our adoption story starts with the loss of our triplets at 20 weeks. We held our children in our arms as they passed away, and I looked at my husband and said never again. We started by pursuing fostering to adopt, but on my birthday we decided to pursue domestic infant adoption. I got serious about it around June 12th, this is also when I contacted Karalee, and signed up with CAC. On June 17th she told us about this little boy that would be due on July 23rd. I told her I just knew he was our son. We were shown on June 18th, matched, and he was born on June 24th! Yes, our adoption journey lasted all of 12 days. Without Karalee and CAC we wouldn't have our little Myles home with us right now.

Family Fundraiser

I have the most amazing and inspirational family, the Wondras, that I'm currently working with. They have been trying to have a family for many years and their road has been very difficult and full of roadblocks. But their faith never wavers. They know they'll be parents and they are so full of grace and love and beauty. They are currently matched and have a bit of a financial emergency on their hands. Caitlyn's Story

This is from one of my first "bloggy" friends on my personal blog and favorite clients, Tracy. She and her husband adopted their daughter in three months - here's their story:

My husband and I learned we had infertility issues and opted for adoption. Unfortunately we chose a bad agency and were chosen by w/an adoption scammer. After that we decided to try fertility treatments and were unsuccesful so we returned to adoption and since we had had such a negative agency experience before chose Christian Adoption Consultants because they look into how honest and ethical each agency they use is. We felt reassured. We also were reassured that we didn't have to pay money up front since we had been burned before.

After signing up w/CAC,and applying to the agencies they recommended, we were chosen in THREE months which was far quicker than we had expected. That day we had been away at our family's vacation house in the mountains and we saw a white dove. A white dove in the PA mountains? Not common. We were away w/parents and everyone hoped it was a "sign" and to our surprise it was. That night, a Sunday, we got a call about our daughter.

We went into work on Monday, told our employers, Tuesday flew to Florida where we checked into the hotel, drove to BRU because we had NO baby equipment, and drove to the agency owners home. It was pretty amazing. I had no idea how to burp a baby or feed a baby, but the agency owner showed me. The agency owners husband installed the recently purchased car seat into the rental car. I remember wondering if she was nuts giving people who didn't now how to do such basic things a child, but they did.

Our daughter Caitlyn is 2 1/2 now, so smart, and a little ball of energy.

I was contacted today by a wonderful agency in Oklahoma. They are in need of a very specific family for a sibling group.

Situation: 5 and 7 year old sibling set (5 year old boy, 7 year old girl). They are Cherokee.

Family Needed: The tribe is requiring placement in a tribal family. The children are currently staying in a Children’s Home in Oklahoma. Family can be enrolled in ANY federally recognized tribe. Need a family that is willing to work through the transition including visitations before placement is made. Ideally a family within driving distance of Oklahoma would be good. Family must be home study ready.

Fees: around $13,000-$14,000 total

One of the best pieces of advice I got when we were looking to adopt as far as medical/drug/alcohol issues, etc. was to find a pediatrician and ask him or her our questions directly. We all know you can go on Google and find a wealth of info- some good, some terrifying, and some completely inaccurate. I found that going directly to my pediatrician not only eased my mind, but set us up for success in the long run because our doctor was privy to all of our child's health info even before the adoption. I loved this article in Adoptive Families magazine that talks about choosing a pediatrician who is adoption-sensitive. We knew our pediatrician was the right fit after he sat down and made time with us for a face to face meeting before the child who was to become our daughter was even born. That sort of time spent and attention to our fears told us he was THE one. :) There are definitely different concerns for children adopted internationally, and finding a pediatrician who specializes in Adoption/Foster Care might be the best road there. You can find that info on the American Academy of Pediatrics website. I'll also link to the actual Adoptive Families article which includes a little checklist of things to look for in a pediatrician.

Planning for "THE CALL!"

One of the hardest things about the adoption process can be the wait. You scramble to get all of the applications, etc. filled out, you hurry to get your home study completed, and then you wait. Wait for situations, wait to be shown, wait for THE CALL. :) Sometimes, as some of my clients have personally found out, it's incredibly quick! And other times, it can be frustrating. Adoptive Families magazine has a great article on their website this month called "Planning for the Call." There are six different tips ranging from being prepared because really, it can happen anytime, to planning for being away from home (who will pick up your mail? :) and planning your homecoming. It's a great article with some nice tips on how to prepared and how to be flexible and enjoy each moment. You can find the entire article HERE.

Emily and Sean's story is so extraordinary - they have been through so much in their journey to their baby - so much loss and heartache, and it is incredible to see this beautiful family photo and to see what God does in His creation of families. Emily and Sean signed up with us June 11. They were matched with their baby boy one week later, and he was born just a few days after that. Congratulations Billy and Joannie!

Billy and Joannie started with Christian Adoption Consultants in the middle of June. They started working on their home study, had a profile done, and funnily enough (or SUCH a GOD thing, if you ask us! :), the same day the FBI cleared their fingerprints and their home study was complete, they matched with their son's birth mom. He was born Feb. 16, and I am so thrilled for them! God bless you guys and sweet baby B! :)

Hello and Happy New Year!
I can't believe it's Feb. already and I'm just now getting a new years greeting up:) The first of the year brought a huge blessing to our home. Our family grew with the addition of a beautiful baby boy. I have been so renewed in my commitment to and love of adoption. It's truly a miracle that comes out a great deal of hurt sometimes, but 100% a gift from God. And we didn't only gain our son, but we gained a piece of our hearts forever in his birth mom. She's awesome, and our entire experience couldn't have been better. Thank you so much to all my fantastic families who have been so supportive and caring during this process. I am honored to be part of your adoption journeys and it's been an honor to have you as part of ours, as well! :)

Why the Difference in the Costs?

I want to take a second to address a few questions I've gotten lately :) Let me start by saying that the situations I post here are from various agencies, which is one reason the fees are different. There is no set fee across the board for agencies to follow, though most fall within a general range throughout the country. Also, Christian Adoption Consultants isn't an agency - we help our clients through the process from start to finish. We help families find home study agencies, we help them through the home study process, we create family profiles, we help our clients find and apply for adoption grants and find creative ways to finance their adoption, we help guide them through the entire process from start to finish. We don't set agency fees and we have nothing to do with the fees for the situations we post.

As far as different fees for different ethnicities is concerned, we firmly believe every child is a precious gift from God. Agencies have to lower their fees on certain situations that are harder to place - sometimes due to ethnic background. Typically, couples who adopt in the US are Caucasian and they request Caucasian babies. There are twice as many Caucasian families trying to adopt than any other ethnicity. There is a tremendous need for families open to children of other ethnicities and we do all we can as far as lowering our fees, having discounts, etc. to help people who want to adopt and are open to ALL babies regardless of their situation be able to afford it.

Happy Adoption Month to you all:) I love that there's an entire month dedicated to celebrating the miracle of adoption. I've found in the last few days that not only am I celebrating my daughter's birth, but I'm also praying more often for her birth family and holding them close in my heart as I remember what they went through to give our daughter life! A Few New Situations as of Aug. 26

Hello!! On a quick personal note, I have a renewed sense of what all of my families and what prospective adoptive parents everywhere are going through. My husband and I adopted our daughter three years ago (using Christian Adoption Consultants, actually, which is what led me to the absolute joy of doing what I do now:) and we're starting to talk seriously about adopting our second baby. So, I'm immersed in home study forms and getting the house ready for a home study and getting funds together and looking at grants, etc. It's exhausting and so exciting! :) It really has reminded me, also, why having a consultant was such a blessing to us. It was an immeasurable help and relief to have someone there for us walking us through the entire process - from finding a home study agency to creating our profile to helping us think of the right things to talk about with our daughter's birth mom. It means so much to me, as well, as an adoptive parent that everyone at Christian Adoption Consultants is an adoptive parent also. We all know on a personal basis as well as a professional one what this process is like! So, a special prayer for all of you guys just starting out! Great Adoptive Families Article

You know how I love Adoptive Families magazine:) There was a great article this month that I know so many families could relate to - it is called Adoption Law: At the Hospital and you can read it HERE.

I know when we were at the hospital waiting for our daughter to be born, we wanted to be sure to follow all the proper procedures and there was a bit of fear in us about how to act and what we could and couldn't do. We were given hospital bracelets and were able to see the baby even before consent had been signed, but that was because our precious birth mom had asked if we could be there with our daughter from the beginning of her life. I know I have clients who ask lots of hospital-related questions or have concerns about how that will go, and as always in adoption, there's never an absolute, but I love the info this article shared, so I'm passing it on to you:)

What a miracle:) God is so good! Jennifer and Brian became clients (and friends!) May 9. They were matched with their daughter's birth mom on June 16th and their beautiful girl was born July 5! Their little firecracker:) It's amazing to see God work so quickly in bringing families together! They had been through so much in their path to their daughter, but their incredible faith in the knowledge that God would bring them the child meant for them was an inspiration. Adoption Tax Credit Info

I've had lots of questions lately about the Adoption Tax Credit. It IS different than it used to be. The adoption tax credit has been extended until the end of 2011 and increased from $12,170 to $13,170 for adoptions occurring after January 1, 2010 (it’s retroactive). The credit is also now refundable. It used to just be a credit for whatever your tax liability was, but it seems than now you can apply the credit even if it's more than your liability, so you MAY be eligible to receive more than what you owe.
There's a great post about this (including the specific language of the bill) on the ABBA Fund's website, which you can visit HERE. I know I speak for myself and many of you when I say this is a great help! Talk with your tax person and maybe share this info with him/her. If you're able to get the full amount or even some of the money, what an awesome blessings and HELP it is in being able to adopt! :)

Summer is nearly upon is!! :) And I don't know about your weather, but man, we're feeling it here! Loving the sunshine, but the humidity is a killer! I wanted to let everyone know that we're continuing to offer a 10% discount on all of our consulting packages. I know things are rough economically right now, and we definitely don't want that to deter people from adoption. It's definitely something that becomes a part of your heart, and we want to help make it a little easier. I just received this situation from an agency we work with. They need profiles ASAP, so if you're interested, let me know as soon as possible! :)

African American baby boy with a scheduled induction date of April 9 in UT, but mom has already been to the hospital once with contractions, so it could be sooner. Agency fees are 16K plus medical.

There are a few other new situations the agencies we work with are trying to match:

This sweet, sweet couple just welcomed their beautiful baby boy! Leah and Luke signed with us March 8, were matched with this situation March 16th, and their precious son was born March 23!! I feel so blessed to have met this awesome family! And they adopted through the same agency we used to adopt our daughter almost exactly three years ago, which has been so much fun to sort of re-live together! It's been a really amazing (and FAST!) journey for them! Sending lots of love, prayers, and hugs their way:)

This company is run by a couple who has adopted, and knows about traveling on a moments notice. They are able to help you get discounts on airfare, rental cars and hotels. I know when we adopted our daughter, we had to stay in the hotel for more than two weeks, so this might be a service that could save a little money! :)

I have to send out a big congratulations to my friends, Kathy and Jason. They signed up with us on Oct. 16th. They got their application in to one of our agencies on Nov. 5th. They were matched the very next day, and their son was born last Wed. How is that for fast?? :) I'm so excited for them and so thankful to have been a part of their journey! Congrats:)

In November, the President makes a Proclamation declaring November National Adoption Month. I read this today:

A PROCLAMATION

All children deserve a safe, loving family to protect and care for them. In America, thousands of young people are waiting for that opportunity. During National Adoption Month, we honor those families that have strengthened America through adoption, and we recommit to reducing the number of children awaiting adoption into loving families.

America is a country rich in resources and filled with countless caring men and women who hope to adopt. These individuals come from all walks of life, united in their commitment to love a child who is in need of the protective arms of a parent. We must do more to ensure that adoption is a viable option for them. By continually opening up the doors to adoption, and supporting full equality in adoption laws for all American families, we allow more children to find the permanent homes they yearn for and deserve.

I love it! Something we can all support politically and who can say that these days?? :) Happy Adoption month to all of those touched by adoption, all of those waiting to adopt, the amazing first parents who love so much, and to those who are made parents through adoption!

Hello! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! We had hoped to show Lily the fireworks for the first time, but she was FAST asleep an hour before they started. That's my girl - she's a great sleeper! :)

We subscribe to Adoptive Families magazine, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has adopted or is in the process. They have the best articles! There was one this month about the wait. It can feel unbearable and like there is no way you can wait longer, but this article beautifully details not just the wait but that moment that a baby is placed in your arms and you know that every second of the wait was well worth it. It's so difficult - I know; I've been there. But I honestly believe the children meant for us come to us. We experienced a failed match before Lily was born, and as painful as it was, that baby was meant to be parented by his birth mom. And if that had worked out for us, we wouldn't have our beautiful daughter who WAS meant to be with us:)

Gracious Answers to Awkward Adoption Questions

Wendy (Thanks, Wendy!!!), author of THIS great blog, posted an awesome article from Adoption.com called, "Gracious Answers to Awkward Adoption Questions." I just read it and absolutely loved it! We are a family via transracial adoption and as our daughter gets older, we are asked more and more of these questions, and I really want to answer the best way I can to show her how proud we are of her and her heritage and that adoption is just another way families are created.

The entire article can be found HERE. One of my favorite sections states:

"Responses such as the above can gently educate others, especially if said with a smile. BUT WE ARE ANSWERING PRIMARILY FOR OUR CHILDREN'S EARS. In the few seconds that we have to prepare our response, we need to make a quick decision as to what words will best support our child's self-esteem, protect the child's privacy about his origins, and/or clarify that adoption builds "real" families with their "own" children. (The right answers come more quickly with practice.) Until more people learn the modern vocabulary of "birth parents" and "children by birth" we're bound to be asked occasional seemingly insensitive questions about the child's "real parents" and our "own" children. I believe that the fault is really in our outdated language more than in the person asking an awkward question. True, some people are not as sensitive as they might be, but usually they have a genuine interest and we would rather not embarrass them (and risk making things worse). We can generally find a gracious answer that will affirm the child without sounding critical of the person asking the question."
It's so true - I always want to correct people, but I don't want to come across as too harsh, especially when they don't mean any harm - they're just curious. But, I also want to affirm my daughter in the process. It's a great article! Definitely check it out!

She is having a full AA boy
Agncy fee is 16K plus full medical. 8 to 10 thousand
Mikah is 25 years old and from Columbus Ohio
She is 5 foot 2 and weighs about 137 pounds
She got her GED
Feels like she can’t parent the baby because of her financial situation
Has had prenatal care
Wants a family with NO Children
Would like an open adoption with possible visits
No drugs or Alcohol
She is looking for a two parent family, education is important. She would like them to be financially secure and a Christian family
Birth Father situation. They have on child together and live with each other.
She says that she has a medium build with black hair and brown eye’s
She has two girls ages 4 and 11 months
In Mikahs family history she states that her brother has asthma. Her daughter and brother both have Eczema. (dry skin)

Urgent Situation - Baby Being Born Friday 3/27

We have an urgent situation sent to us by an agency we work with. The expectant mom will be delivering this FRIDAY via C-section in Arizona. The baby is a biracial little boy. The expectant mom had a positive Quad screen for Down's Syndrome, but an amnio showed that the baby DOES NOT have Down's. The expectant mom also consumed some alcohol in her first trimester. Two Open Adoption Situations Needing Immediate Matches and Many More :)

Urgent Sibling Group Situation

Sibling group of three, 3 year old girl, 2 year old boy, 2 month old girl available for adoption. The children are 3/4 Caucasian and 1/4 African American.
